Wow! Your comic is so awesome! I really like the choice of 'peer pressure' to be the villain. Not just because he looks so evil and scary, but also the fact that university peer pressure is a big issue.

The fact that you guys all kept the same characters as you have on the blog is really cool. I especially liked it when you flashed back to where each of the characters were and what they were doing. It really brought out their individual personalities.

The heroes of your story do their job very well by beating up the villain in the end. Your photos are well taken. The fact that they are active, moving photos really helps pull the comic together.

Good job guys!

Hahaha, what a wonderful piece of creative genius! Well done guys, this comic was really entertaining but at the same time, relayed a very important message about peer pressure (without sounding like a “Soul Buddyz” episode...).

The personification of “peer pressure” was very clever and was easy to identify it as the villain (especially with the help of the costume, it set up the whole hooded villain image). Todorov’s model is clearly evident in this comic as you made use of the stock characters like the princess – readingrocks and then the heroes who all follow the characteristics of Proppian characters as the heroes save readingrocks and restore the equilibrium.

This cartoon was very effective and I am patiently waiting for the second edition :)

tHey my1stime,

I really enjoyed your comic. You utilised the Proppian characters very well. I noticed that every character stood for his or her nickname. The fact that Readingrocks was in the library was the perfect setting in line with who she is and her personality as well as Captain Morgan who was suitably set in a bar with his beer. You characterised Peerpressure very well by illustrating him as a villain, barely seen, mysterious and dark and imitating the peer pressure in university life.
The heroes were presented as the members of the blog. Even though you all are so different you all unite for a common cause to restore order and a new equilibrium for a first year (who is already concerned with what she wants to accomplish in life and why she is here). It was useful brining in the subject of fighting for a first year. Like DazedandConfused said, we are all confused and stressed, we don't need to be exploited into drugs and drinking to 'relieve' the stress.

Keep up the good work

I thought it was very clever and appropriate that you chose to make Peer pressure and not an actual person your villain. This is the truth when it comes to people falling victim to drugs and other substance abuse. It is not the actual person who is the villain but their action and peer pressure that gets someone to do something. Readingrocks is the princess according to Propp as she is threatened by the villain. It does get confusing because although Dazed&confused, Mary Jane, Meat_is_Murder and Captain Morgan are portrayed as the heroes this becomes questionable in your final frame. Alcohol can be just as destructive as drugs and by offering a beer it appears that the ‘heroes’ are actually false heroes according to Propp. This is because although they appear as good they are eventually portrayed as bad. However it is not distinctly clear whether this was your intention.

Guys this comic is really great. It has all the usual Proppian characters, but not in the usual way. It was really clever of you to make peer pressure the villain, as opposed to an actual person. The hero is represented in 4 people which is pretty unusual, and on top of that these people are actually superheroes! It’s also effective how your hero characters were presented in-keeping with their names (which crack me by the way). The story flowed really well following Todorov’s theory of narrative, with the initial equilibrium and disequilibrium taking place in the library before the heroes come along and save the day. There was actual tension during the disequilibrium, something that has been missing from a lot of the other first year comics I have been reading. The comic looks very good as well. The end is just a bit confusing – are you guys baddies in hiding?!

I really enjoyed the way this comic panned out. The initial equilibrium is evident when the victim or ‘princess’ is seen studying in the library when she is immediately presented with a dilemma that puts this equilibrium at risk. The disruption is rather obvious because the villain is shown as a dark figure disrupting the peace. What isn’t clear is who Mary Jane is supposed to represent- the hero or the passive bystander? I don’t see how she can be a member of the ‘princess’ because she is smoking marijuana while the princess is rejecting drugs. Other than that slight confusion, I found the comic very interesting and humorous. Dazed and Confused is almost seen as a characteristic of the ‘princess’ during the disruption.

I enjoyed this photo comic as it is both humorous and very educational It is also relevant in terms of issues first year students’ face. It highlights how the main problem is peer-pressure and at the same time it encourages the first year students to fight it and not give in, as they have the power to defeat it. I love how the names of the characters clearly describe their roles. The villain in this story Peer-pressure; the princess is Readingrocks and the heroes, who beat the life out of Peer-pressure, are: Dazed&confused, Mary Jane, Meat_is_murder and Captain Morgan. I love how a light hearted approach is used to deal with serious matters and how they subtly encourage one to always remember who they are to make it passed the many temptations they will face in University.
